International Baccalaureate

Why IB at Seminole?:  Because challenge builds confidence—and opportunity opens doors.

Seminole is one of only two schools in Seminole County Public Schools offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme, giving students access to one of the most rigorous and globally respected academic pathways available.

The International Baccalaureate Program at Seminole High School is an officially recognized affiliate of the International Baccalaureate Organization. The IB Diploma Programme is a demanding pre-university course of study designed for highly motivated students ages 16–19 and is recognized worldwide for its academic rigor and strong university preparation.

The program uses a criterion-referenced grading system, measuring student performance against clearly defined standards. Students are scored on a 1–7 scale, with 7 being the highest. To earn the IB Diploma, students must achieve a minimum of 24 points across six subjects and successfully complete core requirements including CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), the Theory of Knowledge course, and an original 4,000-word Extended Essay.

Seminole High School’s IB magnet program is open to all Seminole County students who apply by the published deadline, regardless of middle school grades or test scores. The program offers 18 IB subjects at both standard and higher levels, providing a wide range of academic pathways.

The IB Diploma represents:

  • A rigorous pre-university course of study
  • An internationally recognized liberal arts curriculum spanning humanities, mathematics, and sciences
  • A focus on international understanding, responsible citizenship, and lifelong learning
  • A four-year academic experience built on critical thinking, creative expression, and writing across disciplines
  • A pathway designed for highly motivated, college-bound students seeking academic challenge

Students requesting admission for grades 10 through 12 should first contact the IB Office at Seminole High School by calling 407-320-5295.
