Yearbook

Yearbook

At Seminole, students don’t just learn about journalism, photography, design, and storytelling — they live it every single day through the award-winning Salmagundi Yearbook program.

Recognized nationally for excellence, Salmagundi earned the prestigious Pacemaker Award, considered the highest honor in scholastic yearbook journalism and often referred to as the “Pulitzer Prize” of student publications. The program routinely earns additional state and national recognition for the outstanding work created entirely by students.

More than just a class, Salmagundi is a real-world, student-run publication where students are responsible for every aspect of producing the yearbook. From developing the annual theme and concept to writing stories, capturing photography, designing layouts, marketing, and sales, students gain hands-on experience while documenting the history, traditions, achievements, and memories of Seminole High School and the Sanford community.

Yearbook students are on the front lines of campus life — covering athletics, fine arts, academics, student organizations, and major school events as they happen. Through this work, students develop valuable life and career skills including leadership, communication, teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and time management.

Students also work with industry-standard software through Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, preparing them for future opportunities in journalism, marketing, graphic design, photography, and digital media careers. In addition, students have the opportunity to earn industry certifications including Adobe Certified Professional credentials in Visual Design as well as Entrepreneurship and Small Business certification.

The growth of the program reflects its impact. Over the past seven years, enrollment has expanded from just 14 students to more than 50 student staff members, with many students choosing to remain in the program all four years of high school. Student leaders often take on multiple class periods to mentor younger staff members and help guide the production of the nationally recognized publication.

At Seminole, yearbook is more than creating a book — it is about preserving history, telling stories that matter, and preparing students with the creative, technical, and leadership skills needed for success long after graduation.
